We pride ourselves on our warm atmosphere, friendly welcome and clear sense of purpose. Children and adults genuinely enjoy their time here and motivation is high. The true measure of our school is the confident, caring, well-rounded children.
We offer the secure foundation needed for later life, particularly in how we live together in society. This is a place where Christian values permeate every aspect of life, from how we respect and care for each other, to termly services in St. Mary’s Church.
A Church inspection of the school took place in May 2014 and found the school to be ’outstanding’ in its distinctiveness and effectiveness as a Church of England school. The inspection concluded that:-
- All leaders and staff show a strong commitment to an education based on Christian values.
- High academic standards are complemented by excellent opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural education.
- Imaginative pupil-centred worship is at the heart of school life.
- Pupils show excellent caring behaviour and genuine motivation as a result of the school’s commitment to Christian values.
Collective worship is held every day of the week. The parish rector leads certain assemblies, as do other members of the village community. Our Friday ‘Good News Assembly’ celebrates children’s achievements and parents are welcome to join us for this. We teach a three-year rolling programme of Christian values, through assemblies, lessons and activities.
A rich education is more than simply learning reading, writing and maths. It is about helping a child grow into their full potential as inquisitive, well balanced and cheerful adults. As a Christian school we nurture children to display the ‘fruit of the Spirit’, which is “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). At St Mary’s you will find children growing in mind, body and spirit as they form good relationships with each other, the staff and discover a faith which will sustain them in a rapidly changing world. As our motto has it: “what we nurture today flourishes tomorrow”.
