Violet Class (Reception)

Welcome to the Violet Class (Reception Year) page!

Violet Class (Reception Year) is for children aged 4-5 and is taught by Miss Welling
and TA Miss Stockton.

We are all very much looking forward to a fun-filled last term in Reception; where does the time go? This term our topic will be called ‘What a Wonderful World’. This topic will provide the children with lots of opportunities to explore and ask questions about the world around them and discover nature at its best.

Hooray, Ralfy Rabbit (The Book Burglar) has returned our books at long last with a note saying ‘Thank you for letting me borrow your books!’ Violet Class have been very forgiving and have even made some nice homes to keep Ralfy safe from foxes. We are very proud to have won Barney Bear for the last two weeks in a row…he has been busy making friends with the bear who appeared in our class overnight, after reading Julia Donaldson’s story called ‘The Everywhere Bear’.

February 16th 2018

We have been very thoughtful in Violet Class this week, making Valentine’s cards for our families. We have also been learning about Chinese New Year and have made some super drums to make music for a dragon dance.

February 2nd 2018

Violet Class have been enjoying looking after each other in their new hospital role play corner. To continue with our ‘Adventure’ topic, we have been
reading ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers and have written a packing list for the boy and the penguin who go on a journey to the South Pole.

Welcome back to another busy term and a very Happy New Year!

We are very excited about our new topic ‘Adventures’ (Please see curriculum information and topic web for more details).
To begin the excitement we have been re-telling the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and have even adapted the story to make our own adventures.
Take a look at some of the wonderful bear collages and paintings that have been created at the art table!

To further our learning about the world around us we have also had lots of fun making erupting volcanoes by carrying out our own science experiments.

We also wanted to share some of our photos of Broden the Therapy Dog visiting Violet Class. We all took it turns to show him our super reading!

See the attachments below for this term’s curriculum and information about our current topic.

September 2017

We have had a wonderful start to the new school year! As you can see from the photos, the children in Violet class have been having lots of fun exploring with their new friends and have happily settled into life here at St. Mary’s. What an enjoyable and exciting time it has been!

Our main topic this term is ‘Tell us a Story!’ (Please see the topic web and EYFS booklet below for more details).

So far, we have enjoyed sharing our favourite stories and have spent time getting to know each other as well as talking about our families.
Lots of our activities take place outdoors; we have especially loved playing in our new creative kitchen and making dens in our forest area.

Thank you for visiting our page, please visit again soon to see more photos of our learning.

Tapestry:

Please remember to regularly check your child’s Tapestry to see what they have been learning in school. The children love being able to ‘show and tell’ pictures that have been added from home so please continue to add your own observations and comments so that we can share these during our ‘celebration of learning’ time.
