“Freshly prepared Christmas Dinner for 275; no problem,” says Sally Holmes, Kitchen Manager at St. Mary’s C of E Primary School, Fownhope.
With its own on-site kitchen and staff, St. Mary’s rolled out the red carpet at Christmas.
Over two days and four sittings, Sally, the kitchen team and dinner ladies hosted Christmas Dinner not just for the pupils but also their families.
Sally said: “We had great food, a really buzzing atmosphere and plenty of Christmas jumpers!”
Sally and her team also prepared Christmas Dinner for an additional 150 children at Mordiford school, 175 at Lugwardine school and 30 for Fownhope Ladies Lunch club, totalling 620 meals.
“We work hard with our on-site kitchen preparing fresh food daily for lunch, Breakfast Club and After School Club,” added Mr Milne, Head Teacher. “Well-fed children learn well and it’s such an important part of growing up into an adult with manners, enjoying eating in company, enjoying trying new food and learning how to eat properly.”
“It is one of the reasons I chose the school,” said one Mum. “I have a picky eater and even he came home saying he wanted Christmas Dinner. The school is so positive about food and so patient and helpful with the children who struggle with food.”
