Fownhope pupils learn how to leap to the Olympics

David is an exceptional role model
The members of staff and pupils at Fownhope Primary School were excited to welcome Olympic high jump athlete, David Smith, on Friday, February 15th. David, who is originally from Glasgow, told the children about some of the exercises he does to prepare, and they challenged themselves to complete as many spotty dogs, leg drives, press ups and star jumps as possible in one minute. They gathered for an assembly led by David afterwards, and learnt about healthy living, healthy eating and some of the key elements associated with success: teamwork, responsibility, communication and creativity. Mr Milne, Headteacher, said: “David is an exceptional role model. He inspires the children to believe in themselves not just by his words but by his actions. He started sport as a footballer which many children can relate to. They can see how they start with something they can do now and how this can turn into something amazing as they grow up.”  by Aliya Shibli – Reporter, Ross Gazette.
